New Local Music: Cupid’s Heart – ‘Get Up (and Dance)’

Prince Albert-based band, Cupid’s Heart, are back with a rocking new single entitled “Get Up (& Dance)” just in time for a run of spring shows through Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Best known for their unique duo performances featuring electric guitar, cello, and drum machines, the band uses this latest release to introduce drummer Zachary Kerr – a mainstay in the band moving forward – as well as hitting the listener with a definitively more rocking sound than the band has previously been known for.
At its core, ‘Get Up (& Dance)’ feels like a very natural evolution for a band that has been refining and expanding their sound over the past few festival seasons. With vocal performance reminiscent of The Kills coupled with a driving backbone provided by the band’s new drummer, this single is a tight three and a half minute single with catchy choruses and a driving feel.
When asked about the track, Emma (cello) had this to say:
“It is so great to finally start to share what we have been working on with people. This song is the first of many we have planned for this year. ‘Get Up (& Dance)’ has so much energy, that it’s a great one to kick the door down of 2025 and get our music out there again. When things around us are uncertain, sometimes heading out into the world with a positive attitude is a revolutionary thing. We’re all on this planet together, and this kind of energy can help turn a chore into a game and make a lot more things possible. In ‘Get Up (& Dance)’ there are some nebulous situations occurring, but the refrain – ‘Get up and dance,’ feels like a freeing action. Sometimes doing the dance is putting in a shift at work, sometimes it’s literal dancing and transforming stress or other energy into movement, and sometimes it’s just doing something you’re good at.”
